EVENT OVERVIEW

Given the potentially dire impacts which sub-optimal prescription can lead to, Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) is becoming increasingly critical and challenging. It has been recorded that in Australia, 30% of antibiotics prescribed are in fact done so inappropriately. This is a far-reaching issue which practitioners are increasingly faced with globally. The World Health Organisation has said that by 2050 there will be approximately 10 million deaths due to antimicrobial resistance (National surveillance and reporting of antimicrobial resistance and antibiotic usage for human health in Australia 2013).

Given the relationship between antimicrobial overuse and escalating antimicrobial resistance, optimising antibiotic use across Australia’s entire healthcare system, is a pressing concern. This conference will provide practical tools and strategies on targeting and evaluating AMS across a range of healthcare settings.

New for 2016:

  • Renewed focus on targeting and evaluating AMS success
  • Featuring case studies from acute health and primary health
  • Global insights on AMS practices
  • Leading edge alternatives to antimicrobial usage
  • Exploring emerging technologies to enable AMS success

Attend this event and gain:

  • Examine how to effectively utilise resources to maximise the success of AMS
  • Insights into adopting effective strategies to shape prescriber culture
  • Measure and benchmark the cost effectiveness of AMS practices
  • Key techniques to ensure compliance to current standards surrounding AMS in Australia
  • Tangible takeaways to ensure AMS practices are managed effectively at all levels

This 2nd Annual Targeting and Evaluating Antimicrobial Stewardship Forum is endorsed by ACN according to our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Endorsed Course Standards. It has been allocated 11.5 CPD hours according to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia – Continuing Professional Development Standard.
